Zhane was perhaps best known for one of the most loved hip-hop anthems “Hey Mr. DJ” released on the all-star compilation Roll Wit Tha Flava. The popularity of this hit earned the group a contract with Motown in ’94 and was the driver that led to their debut album Pronounced Jah-Nay which went gold at the end of the same year of release and achieving Platinum status two years later.
The group kept busy during ’95-’96 with spots on tracks by Busta Rhymes and De La Soul as well as new songs of their own on the NFL Jams and NBA 50th Anniversary compilations. Contribution was also made to the soundtracks of two films “Higher Learning” and “A Low Down Dirty Shame” with the latter, “Shame” becoming their 4th Top 40 hit.
In 1999 the group decided to go their separate ways to focus on their own projects but during their 6 years together, we’re glad they were able to leave us with other notable hits to the likes of Sending My Love, Request Line and Shame. With that said, we’re taking you back to the early 90s with this classic hit by Zhane. Have a great weekend everyone!
